Martin Creed

Martin Creed is a main influence on our exhibition idea, he believes that art and exhibition should not be taken to seriously, he creates works of art that are different and yet simple.
Martins Creed names his work with numbers and a clear description of what it is we are looking at, in particular we have looked at his work in which he fills spaces with balloons that counter for half the spaces air amount that has been calculated to fit in the room. He has carried on filling spaces with balloons over the years using different colours and a varying size in room and places. The visitors wade through the work of art carefully trying not to pop it, it is unpredictable and playful. Throughout his installations he is constantly making us aware of our surroundings, he is asking himself 'what can i do'.
This is very interesting and different its new, its filling a negative space with a negative space, this is something me and freya were interested in looking at, its something that we think is bot challenging and different, so we came up with the idea to release balloons into a negative space which to us is not always an empty room its the very thing that surrounds us, its the air the negative space that is the sky and in particular the skyline of London. We want to emit colour into the sky by using these balloons, so that people can look up and see something filling the sky.

Here are a few pictures of Martin Creeds work that are all part of the series 'half the air in a given space':
